Business not showing on Google Maps
"We're gone from Google Maps" can mean five different things. Before you appeal anything, work out which one you have, because the fix for each is different and an appeal for the wrong problem wastes your one shot.
Step 1: Search your exact business name
Search your exact business name on Google Maps from a phone that is not signed in to your account, or from an incognito window.
- It shows up normally. You are not suspended. You have a ranking or filtering problem. Skip to step 4.
- It shows "Permanently closed" or "Temporarily closed." Someone marked it closed, possibly by suggesting an edit. Fix it in your profile and check the edit history.
- It does not show at all. Go to step 2.
Step 2: Check the appeals tool and your profile
Sign in to the Google account that manages the listing and open the Business Profile appeals tool. If it lists a decision, the profile is suspended or disabled. Read the guide for suspended profiles, or account restricted if every profile on the account is affected.
If there is no decision, open the profile itself. Look for:
- A verification prompt. Edits to the name, address or category can send a profile back to verification. Until it is verified again it may not appear. See video verification and suspended after an address change.
- "This profile has been merged" or a missing profile. Google may have treated it as a duplicate of another listing at the same address or phone number. Find the surviving listing and make sure it is the one you control.
- A different owner. If someone else now owns the profile, request access through Google's ownership request flow.
Step 3: Make sure nothing on the listing invites a suspension
Even if it is not suspended yet, a listing that is hard to find is often one edit away from a problem. Check the name, address setup, categories and users against the guideline checklist.
Step 4: If it is there but nobody finds it
A listing that shows for its own name but not for "roofer near me" is not suspended. Common reasons:
- Distance. Results lean heavily on how close the searcher is. A business outside the searcher's area ranks lower no matter how good it is.
- Filtering. When several similar businesses share an address, building or phone number, Google often shows only one of them in a given search.
- Category. If the primary category does not match the search, the listing will not show for it.
- Service-area display. Businesses with a hidden address have no pin. That is normal.
These are ranking questions, not policy problems. Do not appeal them, and do not create a second listing to "fix" visibility; Google's guidelines treat that as a duplicate.

Common questions
- Why did my business disappear from Google Maps?
- The usual causes are a suspension, the listing being marked closed, a merge with a duplicate, a verification problem after an edit, or Google filtering the listing out of some searches. Each one looks the same from a customer's phone but is fixed differently.
- My listing shows when I search my business name but not for my services. Is it suspended?
- Probably not. A suspended or removed listing usually does not appear even for its exact name. Showing for your name but not for service searches is a ranking or filtering issue, not a suspension.
- Do service-area businesses show a pin on Google Maps?
- No. A business with its address hidden appears in results and on its profile with a shaded service area, not a pin at a street address. A missing pin alone does not mean anything is wrong.
